Use
The Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein 1 (IGFBP-1) test measures the concentration of IGFBP-1 in the blood, which plays a role in modulating the effects of the insulin-like growth factors. It is primarily used in research settings and is associated with the regulation of cell growth, differentiation, and metabolism. It is important in the context of growth hormone disorders, although alternative tests such as IGF-1 with calculated Z-score and Growth Hormone are recommended for clinical evaluations of suspected growth hormone disorders.
Special Instructions
The test is not performed at ARUP Laboratories, and separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Patients must fast overnight for at least 12 hours prior to specimen collection.
Limitations
The test's analytical performance has been determined by Quest Diagnostics and it has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. The test is validated in accordance with CLIA regulations for clinical purposes. Grossly hemolyzed or lipemic specimens are unacceptable, which may limit the usability of certain samples.
