Lupus Anticoagulant and Antiphospholipid Confirmation (non‑Coumadin) with Consultation
Use
This test is intended to confirm the presence of lupus anticoagulant and antiphospholipid antibodies in patients not on Coumadin therapy, along with a coagulation consultation. It assesses multiple coagulation pathways and antibodies (e.g., PTT‑LA, dRVVT, cardiolipin, beta‑2‑glycoprotein I) to evaluate for antiphospholipid syndrome and related thrombotic conditions.
Special Instructions
Includes consultation component. Reflex testing may occur based on abnormal results (e.g., prolonged aPTT, positive screens). Testing performed at Nichols Institute (e.g., Chantilly or San Juan Capistrano).
Limitations
Reflex testing occurs only if screening tests are prolonged or positive; additional charges apply for confirmatory tests (e.g., dRVVT Confirm, dRVVT 1:1 Mix, Hexagonal Phase Confirmation). Patient anticoagulant therapy (e.g., warfarin, direct oral anticoagulants, heparin) may interfere with lupus anticoagulant testing. Sample must be platelet‑poor plasma — centrifuge and freeze immediately; transport on dry ice.
