Use
The Lymphocyte Antigen Proliferation test is instrumental in evaluating the functionality of lymphocytes in response to specific antigens. This test is crucial for assessing immune competence, particularly in patients with suspected immune deficiencies or dysfunctions. By measuring the proliferation of lymphocytes exposed to candida and tetanus antigens, the test provides valuable insights into the patient's immune response, which can guide clinical management in conditions like immunodeficiency disorders.
Special Instructions
Do not order for patients younger than 3 months unless there is a clinical history of candidiasis. Collection of 10 mL of whole blood for lymphopenic patients is recommended to ensure sufficient isolation of lymphocytes. Both patient and control specimens should be collected simultaneously and under similar conditions.
Limitations
The test requires precise collection and transport conditions to avoid artifacts in results. Specimens must remain at ambient temperature and cannot be refrigerated or frozen. The test cannot be performed on specimens collected in ACD solution B and is unacceptable if transported for more than 48 hours. Lymphocyte counts too low could result in inadequate testing conditions.
