Special Instructions

The test request form must include the patient's date of birth, gestational age, additional patient demographic information, pregnancy type (singleton or multiple), donor egg status, and clinical indications such as advanced maternal age, abnormal ultrasound, or a positive serum screen. Sequenom collection kits must be used for specimen collection.

Limitations

This test does not replace the accuracy of prenatal diagnosis methods such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or amniocentesis. Discordant results may occur due to a variety of factors, including placental, maternal, or fetal mosaicism, and prior maternal organ transplant. It is not intended to identify pregnancies at risk for neural tube defects or ventral wall defects. The testing may not accurately identify fetal triploidy or the precise locations of subchromosomal duplications or deletions. Factors such as maternal BMI, weight, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) can impact the results.
