An aid in the detection and monitoring of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), particularly those associated with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC)
Special Instructions
Values obtained with different assay methods should not be used interchangeably. Consistent usage of the same assay method is recommended for monitoring each patient's therapy. This particular procedure does not support serial monitoring and is meant for singular usage. For serial monitoring, order number 480137 should be utilized instead.
Limitations
The test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Labcorp, but it hasn't been cleared or approved by the FDA. Hemolysis can falsely elevate NSE levels due to erythrocytes' high NSE content. Variability across different assay methods limits result interchangeability. The test's specificity and sensitivity are influenced by the method used, for instance, the Brahms Kryptor assay displays specific sensitivity thresholds for distinguishing between various types of lung cancer.
