Measurement of nicotine and its metabolites to monitor success of smoking cessation programs, detect passive exposure, and evaluate nontobacco nicotine exposure
Special Instructions
This test is preferably conducted with a specimen collected in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube, green-top (heparin) tube, or red-top tube to ensure sample integrity. The specimen can remain stable at room temperature, refrigerated, or frozen for up to 14 days.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by LabCorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration, which means that it has not undergone extensive review by the FDA. Additionally, while the test measures nicotine and various metabolites, potential interfering substances in the specimen may affect the accuracy of this assessment. The results should be interpreted in the context of other clinical and laboratory findings.
