Use
The PM/Scl-100 IgG antibody test is primarily used to evaluate the presence of connective tissue diseases, such as polymyositis (PM), dermatomyositis (DM), systemic sclerosis (SSc), and polymyositis/systemic sclerosis overlap syndrome. It is significant when the PM/Scl-100 IgG antibody is present alongside a positive ANA IFA nucleolar pattern. The test helps in differential diagnosis of systemic sclerosis or connective tissue disease with overlapping features of systemic sclerosis and/or myositis.
Special Instructions
Collect serum in a serum separator tube. Transfer 1 mL of serum to an ARUP standard transport tube for processing. Use caution to avoid plasma contamination and hemolysis.
Limitations
This test detects antibodies to PM/Scl-100, but antibodies to other target epitopes in the PM/Scl complex are not captured by this assay. The clinical relevance of detecting PM/Scl-100 IgG antibodies in the absence of a positive ANA IFA nucleolar pattern remains unknown. Interpreting test results should consider the entire clinical picture and not rely solely on this test.
