Streptococcus Group B DNA, PCR with Broth Enrichment and Reflex to Susceptibility
Use
This test detects Group B Streptococcus (GBS) DNA using PCR after broth enrichment. It is used in prenatal screening to identify maternal GBS colonization, which is important because GBS can cause severe neonatal infection during delivery. Reflex susceptibility testing is performed if GBS DNA is detected, to guide antibiotic therapy in penicillin-allergic patients.
Special Instructions
Broth enrichment increases sensitivity. Reflex to susceptibility (e.g., aerobic MIC) is performed at an additional charge if GBS DNA is detected. Performing site is Quest Diagnostics Nichols Institute, San Juan Capistrano.
Limitations
