Thrombin Clotting Time with Reflex to Mixing Study
Use
This test measures the time it takes for plasma to form a clot after the addition of thrombin. If the Thrombin Clotting Time exceeds 23 seconds, a reflex mixing study is performed to help evaluate causes of prolonged clotting, such as the presence of inhibitors or dysfibrinogenemia.
Special Instructions
If the Thrombin Clotting Time is >23 seconds, then Mixing Studies will be performed at an additional charge (CPT code(s): 85675).

Collection Instructions
Collect 1 mL plasma in light blue 3.2% sodium citrate tubes; centrifuge 15 minutes at ~1500 × g within 60 minutes, remove platelet‑poor plasma, centrifuge again, transfer, freeze immediately and ship on dry ice; plasma must be free of platelets (< 10,000/mcL).
