West Nile Virus by PCR
Also known as: WNILE PCR
Use
The test is used to confirm positive results from West Nile antibodies test or to clarify equivocal results from serologic tests. It is useful in the diagnostic process for West Nile Virus, helping to detect the presence of the virus by identifying its genetic material in the specimen.
Special Instructions
The specimen source is required. Specimens must be transferred to a sterile container, and the serum or plasma should be separated from cells. The test is performed from Monday to Friday.
Limitations
A negative result does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or of nucleic acid in concentrations below the level of detection by the assay. Heparinized specimens are unacceptable and will be rejected.
