Yellow Jacket

Use
The Yellow Jacket test is used to assess allergic sensitization by measuring levels of specific IgE antibodies against the yellow jacket venom. Identifying these specific IgE antibodies helps in the diagnosis of allergic conditions such as anaphylaxis or systemic allergic reactions following insect stings, which can be severe or life-threatening.
Special Instructions
The test requires a blood sample which should be taken in a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. The serum volume required is 0.2 mL. Room temperature storage is permissible and specimens remain stable for up to 14 days at room temperature or refrigerated, and up to 3 months if frozen. This test uses the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® system, which is highly specific and sensitive for IgE determination.
Limitations
While the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® system used is highly specific and sensitive, cross-reactivity with other allergens may occur. Additionally, results need to be interpreted in the context of exposure history and clinical symptoms. The presence of specific IgE does not always correlate with the clinical severity of reactions and false positives or negatives can occur.
