Allergen, Food, Carob Gum/Locust Bean IgE
Also known as: CAROB GUM
Use
The Allergen, Food, Carob Gum/Locust Bean IgE test is used to measure the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the serum, which helps in identifying potential allergic reactions to carob gum / locust bean. This test can guide clinical diagnosis and allergy management by correlating the concentration levels with clinical history and in vivo reactivity. It aids in determining the likelihood of IgE-mediated allergic reactions but may not always correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters during sample collection. Patients should ensure proper serum separation from cells within two hours after collection. Use ARUP Standard Transport Tube for serum sample transfer. For multiple allergens, refer to Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions at www.aruplab.com/testing/resources/specimen.
Limitations
Allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L require specialist interpretation as their clinical relevance is undetermined. Not all concentrations correlate with allergic reactions or skin test results. Negative results do not rule out allergies or anaphylaxis entirely. Validation was performed by ARUP Laboratories, but the test has not been FDA cleared or approved, although it complies with CLIA regulations.
