Allergen, Food, Eggplant
Also known as: EGGPLANT
Use
This test measures allergen-specific IgE to eggplant, which may be indicative of allergic sensitization to eggplant. Monitoring levels of allergen-specific IgE can assist the physician in the diagnosis of allergic diseases caused by eggplant. However, it is essential to correlate these results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided when conducting this test. Separate serum from cells as soon as possible, or within 2 hours of collection, and transfer the serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Limitations
Allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist use only as the clinical relevance is undetermined. Though increasing IgE levels reflect higher concentrations of allergen-specific IgE, these may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin test results. A negative test does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. The test's performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories, and it has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
