Allergen, Food, Macadamia Nut IgE
Also known as: MACADA NUT
Use
This test measures the concentration of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) specific to macadamia nuts in the serum, which is helpful in diagnosing IgE-mediated allergic reactions to macadamia nuts. The test can aid clinicians in correlating laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens. Results within the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist use as the clinical relevance is undetermined, and increasing IgE levels may not necessarily correlate with the degree of clinical response.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid multiple encounters to ensure accurate specimen collection. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection and transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Refrigerate the specimen during transport.
Limitations
The test results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L are for specialist interpretation due to undetermined clinical relevance and may not correlate with skin testing results or the degree of clinical symptoms. A negative test does not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. The performance characteristics of this test were determined by ARUP Laboratories and are not FDA cleared or approved.
