Use
The Allergen, Food, Mushroom IgG test is used to quantitatively measure allergen-specific IgG antibodies in the serum. It is helpful in assessing exposure to mushroom allergens and may be supportive in managing allergic conditions related to mushrooms. The measured IgG levels can provide information on possible allergen sensitization, though clinical correlation with allergic symptoms is essential. IgG antibodies are not typically considered diagnostic for immediate-type IgE-mediated allergic reactions; however, they may be useful for identifying exposure to allergens or delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions.
Special Instructions
This test is not approved for submission to New York state laboratories. Proper specimen collection and handling are essential to ensure test accuracy. Use a serum separator tube (SST) for collection and separate the serum from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection.
Limitations
Results from the Allergen, Food, Mushroom IgG test should be interpreted in the context of the clinical picture, as elevated IgG levels alone are not diagnostic of an allergic condition. The test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA and is classified as a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT). Additionally, the presence of hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimens can interfere with test results and such samples are rejected. Caution should be exercised as IgG antibodies may not correlate with clinical symptoms and are not indicative of IgE-mediated immediate-type hypersensitivity reactions.
