Allergen, Food, Squid IgE
Also known as: SQUID IGE
Use
This test measures the level of IgE antibodies specific to squid allergens in the serum, aiding in the diagnosis of allergic reactions to squid. It is important for individuals with suspected squid allergies to understand their allergy profile, as the presence of specific IgE antibodies indicates sensitization, but does not always correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms. The correlation of allergy laboratory results with clinical history and reactivity to specific allergens is essential for accurate allergy assessment.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided for obtaining specimens. Separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection for optimal results. For multiple allergen orders, refer to the Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions at ARUP's resource webpage.
Limitations
Results interpreted below 0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist use, as their clinical relevance is undetermined. The test's sensitivity might not correlate with the degree of clinical response or in vivo skin testing results. Moreover, a negative test does not eliminate the possibility of a clinical allergy or even anaphylactic reactions. Therefore, results should be correlated with clinical history and in vivo allergen reactions for definitive diagnosis.
