Squid
Use
This test measures specific IgE antibodies to squid, which can help diagnose allergic reactions to this food allergen. Squid allergies can cause symptoms ranging from mild to severe, including anaphylaxis in sensitive individuals. Testing for specific IgE helps in assessing sensitization to squid in patients with a suspected food allergy.
Special Instructions
The test uses the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® methodology, which is a widely used technology for detecting specific IgE levels. It is important to collect and handle the specimen as per the stability requirements to ensure accurate results.
Limitations
This test measures specific IgE levels and should be used in conjunction with a patient's clinical history and other diagnostic findings. IgE level alone cannot confirm an allergy; clinical correlation is necessary. False negatives may occur in patients with very high total IgE levels or when antihistamines are affecting the IgE binding capabilities. Not all individuals sensitized to squid will be symptomatic upon exposure.
