Allergen, Food, Strawberry
Also known as: STRAWBERRY
Use
This test is used to detect allergen-specific IgE for strawberry, which can help diagnose strawberry allergies. Accurate detection of allergies depends on correlating laboratory results with clinical symptoms and patient history, as some individuals may show elevated IgE levels without exhibiting allergic reactions. The ImmunoCAP technology quantifies allergen-specific IgE concentrations to aid in the assessment of potential allergic reactions.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid multiple patient encounters to reduce variability in IgE levels due to environmental exposures. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours of collection. The specimen should then be transferred to an ARUP standard transport tube. For multiple allergen orders, refer to ARUP's allergen specimen collection instructions.
Limitations
Allergen results are not definitive indicators of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. High IgE levels do not always correlate with symptom severity or in vivo tests such as skin tests. Clinical history and other diagnostic tests should be considered when interpreting results. Specific IgE levels between 0.10-0.34 kU/L have uncertain clinical relevance and should be interpreted by specialists.
