Allergen, Food, Sugar Cane IgE
Also known as: SUGARCANE
Use
The Sugar Cane IgE test is used to identify and quantify the presence of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies specific to sugar cane allergens in a patient's blood. This test is crucial for diagnosing allergies related to sugar cane and helps in managing symptoms by avoiding exposure to the allergen, thereby improving patient outcomes. Specific IgE testing is an essential tool in allergy work-ups allowing healthcare providers to confirm sensitization and tailor patient management strategies accordingly.
Special Instructions
The test is not performed at ARUP Laboratories. Specimens must be separated, and the serum should be transferred to an ARUP standard transport tube with a minimum volume of 0.34 mL plus an additional 0.04 mL for each allergen ordered.
Limitations
The test has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which may affect the clinical decision-making process. Results may be influenced by cross-reactivity with other allergens, and as such, should be interpreted in the context of a clinical examination and knowledge of the patient's allergy history. Additionally, hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimens are unacceptable which could impact test result validity if not properly handled.
