Allergen, Fungi and Molds, Helminthosporium
Also known as: HELMIN
Use
This test quantitatively measures specific IgE antibodies to the allergen Helminthosporium. The results are used to evaluate if a patient has an allergic sensitization to this specific allergen, which can mediate IgE allergic reactions. Such testing supports diagnosis when clinical history and in vivo reactivity to allergens are correlatively assessed.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided for accurate assessment. Always consult the allergen specimen collection instructions for the correct procedure, especially when multiple allergen orders are made.
Limitations
Allergen results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted by specialists. Increasing IgE concentrations do not always correlate with the clinical severity of allergic reactions or skin testing results. It remains crucial to correlate laboratory results with the patient's clinical history as well as their in vivo reactivity to specific allergens. Negative results do not exclude the possibility of allergic reactions or anaphylaxis.
