Allergen, Fungi and Molds, Rhizopus nigricans IgE
Also known as: RHIZOPUS
Use
This test is used to measure the level of IgE antibodies specific to Rhizopus nigricans, a type of fungus, to help diagnose allergic reactions. The quantitative assessment of IgE levels can indicate the probability of an allergic clinical reaction. Different classes are defined to determine if a noticeable level of IgE is detected, which may correlate with the presence of allergic symptoms. It is crucial to correlate the lab results with the clinical history and any in vivo reactivity to Rhizopus nigricans.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid situations that could lead to multiple encounters to ensure accuracy of the allergen test. Allergen specimen collection should follow specific guidelines, especially when ordering multiple allergens, reference available instructions at the ARUP Laboratories' website.
Limitations
Due to the nature of allergen-specific IgE tests, concentrations identified through this test may not directly correlate with the severity of a clinical reaction or skin test results when exposed to the allergen. Allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L should be interpreted by specialists as the clinical significance is uncertain. A negative result does not absolutely rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis.
