Aspergillus niger
Use
The Aspergillus niger test is used to measure the specific IgE antibodies in the serum to determine allergic sensitivity to Aspergillus niger, a common mold. Identification of these antibodies helps in diagnosing and managing allergic conditions such as asthma, rhinitis, or hypersensitivity pneumonitis caused by exposure to this mold.
Special Instructions
None provided. Note that individual allergens related to Aspergillus species may be tested separately based on clinical indications. Providers should ensure the specimen meets volume requirements and is properly labelled to aid in accurate testing.
Limitations
The Aspergillus niger test is specific to IgE antibodies and may not detect other immune responses or reactions that do not involve IgE antibodies. False positives or negatives can occur, particularly in cases of cross-reactivity with other fungal species. This test should not be used as the sole criterion for allergy diagnosis and should be supplemented with a clinical history and other diagnostic studies.
