Allergen, Insect, Mosquito, IgE
Also known as: MOSQUITO
Use
This test is used to assess the presence of IgE antibodies specific to mosquito allergens, which can indicate an allergic sensitivity. The test measures allergen-specific IgE concentrations and is used to help distinguish allergic responses. Results of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are particularly intended for specialist use as the clinical relevance is undetermined. The correlation of allergy laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens is essential.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure accuracy in testing. It is important to transfer the serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. For multiple allergen orders, refer to ARUP's "Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions."
Limitations
While increasing ranges in allergen-specific IgE concentrations may indicate higher sensitivity, these levels may not correlate with the severity of a clinical allergic reaction or results from skin testing. A negative result does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history. The test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories, and FDA approval is not required for clinical use.
