Use
This test is used for the quantitative measurement of allergen-specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE) to Pine/Australian Tree allergens. The detected IgE levels help in identifying allergic sensitization to these specific tree allergens and can be instrumental in diagnosing and managing allergic conditions like allergic rhinitis and asthma associated with pine tree pollen exposure. However, the concentration of IgE may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin test results, as other factors may contribute to allergic reactions. Correlation with clinical history and other tests is essential for accurate diagnosis.
Special Instructions
Allergen results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L require specialist interpretation as the clinical relevance is not clearly determined. It's recommended to avoid multiple patient encounters to prevent variability in test results.
Limitations
The concentration of allergen-specific IgE detected does not necessarily correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms or the results of skin tests when challenged with the allergen. A negative result does not exclude the possibility of an allergy or even an anaphylactic reaction upon exposure to the allergen. Clinical correlation and further testing may be necessary for a comprehensive diagnosis.
