Allergen, Tree, Sweet Gum Tree
Also known as: SWEETGUMTR
Use
This test measures the concentration of specific IgE antibodies to the Sweet Gum Tree allergen in the patient's serum. Allergen-specific IgE levels are used to assess the probability of an IgE-mediated allergic reaction to Sweet Gum Tree pollen. The test helps in diagnosing allergic sensitization and in managing patients with allergic symptoms, aiding clinicians in correlating laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity.
Special Instructions
It is important that serum is separated from cells as soon as possible, preferably within two hours of collection, to ensure the accuracy of the test. For patients with multiple allergen orders, refer to the 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' at www.aruplab.com/testing/resources/specimen. Avoid multiple patient encounters to ensure consistent results.
Limitations
While increasing levels of allergen-specific IgE reflect higher concentrations, these do not always correlate with the severity of clinical allergic responses or outcomes from skin tests when directly challenged with the allergen. A negative result from this assay does not rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or risk of anaphylaxis. Results in the range of 0.10 to 0.34 kU/L are particularly challenging to interpret clinically and should be considered in the context of the patient's full clinical picture.
