Allergen Profile, Seasonal Allergen, Spring−Tree
Use
This test measures specific IgE antibodies to a panel of tree allergens commonly associated with springtime allergies. It helps in identifying specific allergens that a patient may be sensitive to, which is crucial for the diagnosis and management of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis or asthma. Accurate identification of allergens can assist in formulating avoidance strategies, recommending specific treatment plans, or considering allergen immunotherapy for patients with significant allergic symptoms.
Special Instructions
Ensure the specimen is labeled correctly and avoid hemolysis in samples to prevent inaccuracies in test results. Specimens should be collected in a red-top or gel-barrier tube and stored at room temperature for optimal test performance.
Limitations
This test quantifies IgE antibody levels, yet it may not correlate with the clinical severity of allergic reactions. Some individuals may have detectable IgE levels without clinical symptoms, while others with symptoms might have low IgE levels. Cross-reactivity among allergens can occur, potentially leading to false positives. Results should be interpreted in the context of clinical history and additional allergy testing. Further confirmatory testing might be required in cases of equivocal results.
