Allergen, Weed, Giant Ragweed
Also known as: GRAG
Use
The purpose of this test is to measure the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to Giant Ragweed extract. This can help in diagnosing allergic diseases and conditions, assisting healthcare providers in confirming a suspected allergic condition and monitoring allergic sensitization over time. Despite precise quantitative measurements, these concentrations may not consistently correlate with the degree of clinical response to specific allergens; therefore, the correlation of allergy laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens is essential.
Special Instructions
When ordering multiple allergens, refer to 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' at www.aruplab.com/testing/resources/specimen. Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure optimal test accuracy.
Limitations
Even though increasing ranges of IgE concentrations are reflective of increasing levels of allergen-specific IgE, these concentrations may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results when challenged. A negative test result does not rule out clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis. Interpretation should always consider clinical history and other diagnostic evaluations.
