Allergen, Weed, Western Ragweed
Also known as: WRAG
Use
This test is used to measure the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to Western Ragweed in the blood. It can help identify individuals who might have an IgE-mediated allergic response to Western Ragweed, which is important for diagnosing and managing allergic conditions and reactions. The test is useful for assessing allergy lab results in conjunction with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to allergens.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to prevent variability in results. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection to maintain sample integrity.
Limitations
Results indicating 0.10-0.34 kU/L are for specialist use as the clinical relevance is undetermined. Increasing ranges of allergen-specific IgE concentrations may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results when challenged with the allergen. A negative test does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis, emphasizing the need for clinical correlation.
