Allergens, Inhalants/Foods, Pacific Northwest Profile
Also known as: PACIFIC NW
Use
This test is designed to identify specific allergen sensitivities in patients from the Pacific Northwest region. By detecting the presence and concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies, healthcare providers can gain insights into potential allergic reactions of patients to common allergens such as animal dander, tree and grass pollens, and food allergens. The results help in diagnosing allergic conditions and devising appropriate management plans for patients suffering from allergies.
Special Instructions
It is crucial to separate the serum from cells as soon as possible, preferably within two hours of collection. Serum should be transferred into an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. This testing protocol helps in maintaining the integrity of the specimen and ensuring accurate results.
Limitations
Although the test detects allergen-specific IgE, the presence of these antibodies does not always correlate with the severity of clinical allergic reactions. Negative results do not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Additionally, the relevance of results within the 0.10-0.34 kU/L range is uncertain and should be interpreted by specialists in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic results.
