Allergens, Inhalants, Northeast Comprehensive
Also known as: NORTHEAST
Use
The Allergens, Inhalants, Northeast Comprehensive test is used to quantitatively measure specific IgE antibodies to a comprehensive panel of inhalant allergens common in the Northeast region. This test aids in the diagnosis of allergic conditions and assists in the management of allergy symptoms by identifying specific allergen sensitivities. IgE levels in response to individual allergens are measured and reported to help guide clinical decisions regarding patient management, such as avoidance strategies, pharmacotherapy, or allergen-specific immunotherapy.
Special Instructions
Multiple specimen tubes should be avoided for this test to ensure accurate results. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours of specimen collection. It is important to refrigerate the specimen promptly to maintain stability; failure to do so can affect test results. Healthcare professionals should correlate the test results with clinical history for accurate interpretation.
Limitations
This test measures allergen-specific IgE levels, which may not directly correlate with clinical response or skin testing results when the patient is exposed to allergens. Low levels of specific IgE antibodies might not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy, and some individuals with higher IgE concentrations may not display clinical symptoms. It is essential to combine test results with the patient’s clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens to determine clinical significance. Cross-reactivity among allergens may also impact results.
