Allergens, Pediatric Foods/Inhalants Profile
Also known as: PED PAN 2
Use
This test is intended for the qualitative measurement of allergen-specific IgE in serum to identify potential allergen sensitivities in pediatric patients. The test covers a variety of common allergens including foods and inhalants. The results can help healthcare providers assess and manage allergic diseases in children by correlating laboratory findings with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens.
Special Instructions
It is important to separate serum from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours, and transfer to the appropriate transport tube. Patient preparation involves minimizing multiple patient encounters to avoid variable results. The test is performed daily, with results reported within 1 to 3 days. Special handling to avoid hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimens is required.
Limitations
The concentrations of allergen-specific IgE detected may not necessarily correlate with the degree of clinical response or predict skin testing results when challenged with a specific allergen. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. The clinical relevance of allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L should be interpreted with caution and are mainly intended for specialist use. Laboratory results should always be correlated with the patient's clinical history.
