Aripiprazole and Metabolite, Serum or Plasma
Also known as: ARIPIPRAZO
Use
The test is used to optimize drug therapy and monitor patient adherence for those under aripiprazole treatment. It quantitatively measures the levels of aripiprazole and its metabolites in serum or plasma to ensure therapeutic levels are achieved and maintained without reaching toxic concentrations. The therapeutic range is primarily based on pre-dose (trough) serum samples collected at a steady-state concentration, helping in adjusting dosages to minimize adverse effects which can include headache, nausea, somnolence, and blurred vision.
Special Instructions
Pre-dose (trough) draw at steady-state concentration is required for accurate measurement. Plain Red tube is preferred; Lavender (EDTA) or Pink (K2 EDTA) tubes are also acceptable. Immediate separation from cells or within 2 hours of collection is necessary to ensure sample integrity.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories, but it has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. It is intended for clinical purposes and performed in a CLIA-certified laboratory. Whole blood, gel separator tubes, light blue (citrate), or yellow (SPS or ACD solution) tubes are not acceptable as they may affect the integrity of the measured analytes.
