Autoimmune Stiff-Person Disorders, CSF
Also known as: AISPSC
Use
This test is used to evaluate symptoms such as stiffness, spasms, hyperekplexia, limb rigidity, myoclonus, or limb dystonia, which may or may not be associated with encephalopathy. Testing both serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is recommended to enhance diagnostic accuracy. The test can help diagnose conditions such as Stiff-Person Syndrome and other immune-mediated movement disorders.
Special Instructions
Testing in both serum and CSF is advised for accurate diagnosis. If DPPX CSF Antibody IgG by IFA is positive, titer will be added which incurs additional charges. Patient preparation prior to collection is not specified.
Limitations
The test is not FDA cleared or approved. A negative result does not rule out autoimmune neurologic disease, as antibody presence may vary. Results should be interpreted considering the patient's clinical history and other laboratory findings. The methodology might not detect all variants or manifestations of the disorder.
