Bordetella pertussis Antibody, IgA by Immunoblot
Also known as: BORDA BLOT
Use
The Bordetella pertussis Antibody, IgA by Immunoblot test is used to detect IgA antibodies against Bordetella pertussis antigens such as pertussis toxin (PT) and filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA). Detection of these antibodies can indicate a recent infection or vaccination with B. pertussis. PT antibodies are specific to Bordetella pertussis, while FHA is a common antigen among multiple species of Bordetella. This test may be used in conjunction with PCR and culture methods as recommended by the CDC for diagnosing pertussis, particularly in the late stages of infection.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Results may be affected by sample contamination or degradation, and by the time elapsed since infection or vaccination, which could influence antibody levels. This test specifically detects IgA antibodies, and might not fully reflect immune response involving IgG or other antibodies. Cross-reactivity with antigens from other Bordetella species using FHA may occur, which could impact specificity results.
