Candida glabrata, Candida species, and Trichomonas vaginalis by TMA
Also known as: CVTV TMA
Use
This test aids in the diagnosis of vulvovaginal candidiasis and trichomoniasis by detecting Trichomonas vaginalis, Candida glabrata, and other Candida species, including C. albicans, C. parapsilosis, C. dubliniensis, and C. tropicalis. It does not differentiate among organisms within the Candida species group, making it essential in clinical decision-making for patients presenting with symptoms of vaginitis. The test is particularly relevant due to its ability to identify multiple causative organisms in a single assay.
Special Instructions
Patient must be 14 years of age or older. Samples should be collected using the pink swab from the Aptima MultiTest Swab Collection kit. For additional STI testing, consider using Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae by TMA (test code: 0060241).
Limitations
A negative result does not preclude a possible infection, and this test does not differentiate among organisms within the Candida species group. Results should be interpreted alongside other clinical data. The assay is not validated for specimens collected at home and is not intended for forensic purposes, such as the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse.
