Cellano Antigen Typing - Patient
Also known as: K LITTLEAG
Use
The Cellano Antigen Typing - Patient test is utilized to determine the presence of the little k (cellano) antigen (KEL2) on a patient's red blood cells. It is important in transfusion medicine to understand the antigenic profile of a patient's blood, which can influence compatibility with donor blood and risk of alloimmunization. Homozygosity or heterozygosity for the k antigen can affect clinical transfusion decisions.
Special Instructions
To determine if the patient is homozygous or heterozygous for the k antigen, ordering the Kell Antigen Typing - Patient (2007731) in conjunction with this test is recommended.
Limitations
The test cannot be conducted using separator tubes as they are deemed unacceptable. Freezing the specimen is also inadvisable since it leads to rejection due to stability issues. The test is sensitive to improper storage and transit conditions, specifically with regard to temperature, which can affect the integrity of results. Results may be influenced by the presence of other antibodies that react similarly in hemagglutination.
