Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (CTNG) by Transcription-Mediated Amplification (TMA) with Reflex to CT/NG Confirmation
Also known as: CTNG CONF
Use
This test is used to detect Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae in various specimens. It is particularly useful for screening sexually transmitted infections. Positive results are confirmed using an alternate nucleic acid target, ensuring greater accuracy. The test is not intended for the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse or other medicolegal purposes. The interpretation should follow the most recent CDC recommendations, especially for patients where false-positive results could have adverse psychosocial impacts.
Special Instructions
Specimen source is required for testing. Use only the specified Aptima MultiTest Swab Specimen Collection kit or the Aptima Urine Specimen Transport Tube for collection and transport. Avoid using large white cleaning swabs from the Aptima Unisex collection kit, or specimens in any transport media other than those indicated. Specimens without a swab or in incorrect transport media will be rejected.
Limitations
This test is not intended for medicolegal purposes such as evaluating suspected sexual abuse cases. Eye specimens are not subject to confirmation testing, nor is routine testing in adults. False positives could occur, hence careful consideration of psychosocial contexts is advised. Any sample collected without the specified kits or in non-indicated transport media poses a risk of rejection and erroneous results.
