Chromium, RBC
Also known as: CR RBC
Use
The Chromium, RBC test is primarily used to investigate or monitor potential hexavalent chromium exposure. Hexavalent chromium is a toxic metal that can have adverse health effects if not monitored properly. It is important for those exposed to this element, especially in industrial settings, to undergo testing for accurate assessment and management of chromium levels in the body, specifically through the red blood cells where chromium can accumulate.
Special Instructions
Specimens for elemental testing should be collected in certified metal-free containers. Elevated results for elemental testing may be caused by environmental contamination at the time of specimen collection and should be interpreted accordingly. It is recommended that unexpected elevated results be verified by testing another specimen in a trace metal-free container. The test is performed by NMS Labs, a non-ARUP laboratory, and requires separate submission of specimens when multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
The test performance characteristics were determined by NMS Labs and have not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Results may be affected by potential environmental contamination at the time of specimen collection, leading to elevated chromium levels.
