Fungal Identification by ITS rDNA Sequencing
Also known as: MC YSTSEQ
Use
This test is used to identify fungi from a culture by sequencing the ITS region of rDNA. The identification of the fungal organism can aid in the diagnosis of fungal infections and guide appropriate treatment by confirming the presence and identity of fungal species.
Special Instructions
The test must be ordered using an actively growing mold or yeast in pure culture, which should be transported in a sealed container with pure culture on an agar slant. Each specimen needs to be placed in an individually sealed bag, and the specimen source is preferred.
Limitations
The test requires actively growing mold or yeast in pure culture; mixed cultures or nonviable organisms cannot be processed. Additionally, the specimen must adhere to shipping guidelines if it's categorized as an infectious substance under IATA. Frozen specimens are not acceptable, affecting the viability of the sample.
