Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid (GHB), Urine - Screen with Reflex to Confirmation/Quantitation
Also known as: GHB U
Use
This test is useful for general screening to assess drug abuse. It provides a detection of Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid in urine, and if the screen indicates presence, a confirmation and quantitation test is performed to provide detailed analysis. Screening and confirmation help in identifying and quantifying GHB usage in patients, which is critical for clinical evaluation in cases of suspected drug abuse, overdose, or poisoning.
Special Instructions
If the Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid Screen is detected, the test will reflexively add confirmation testing at no additional charge. The test is performed by a non-ARUP laboratory, specifically NMS Labs, as part of the service agreement.
Limitations
This test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. It was developed and its performance characteristics were determined by NMS Labs. It may not detect all analogs or derivatives of GHB and the presence of interfering substances in the urine may impact detection. Confirmation testing ensures more accurate quantification.
