Giardia lamblia Antibody, IgG by ELISA
Also known as: GIA IGG
Use
The Giardia lamblia Antibody, IgG by ELISA test is used to detect the presence of IgG antibodies to Giardia lamblia in serum. Giardia lamblia is a protozoan parasite that infects the gastrointestinal tract, causing giardiasis, which is a common cause of diarrhea worldwide. The test aids in the diagnosis of giardiasis by identifying an immune response indicating past or present infection with Giardia lamblia. It is particularly useful in individuals presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms suggestive of giardiasis, including prolonged diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and nausea.
Special Instructions
This test is not New York state approved and should not be submitted to ARUP for patients from New York. Ensure the serum is separated from cells within one hour of collection and freeze immediately. Provide separate specimens if multiple tests are ordered, as this test is not performed at ARUP.
Limitations
The performance characteristics of this test have been validated by BioAgilytix Diagnostics; however, it is not FDA-approved or cleared. As a result, the assay results can be used for clinical diagnosis without FDA approval. The test is performed by a CLIA certified and CAP accredited laboratory for high complexity assays. Samples stored at ambient temperature are unacceptable, and the test must be conducted within the documented stability conditions.
