Use
This test is used to determine antiviral drug resistance by DNA sequencing in patients infected with the Hepatitis B virus. It sequences both the HBV RT polymerase and the HBsAg encoding regions, identifying major HBV genotypes as well as resistance and surface antigen mutations. The information obtained is crucial for the management of drug resistance in patients undergoing antiviral therapy.

Limitations
The test may not detect mutations in viral sub-populations that constitute less than 20% of the total. Challenges such as a low viral load, PCR inhibitors, and viral genetic variation may lead to PCR failure and indeterminate genotyping results.
