Hereditary Hemolytic Anemia Cascade
Also known as: HHACASCADE
Use
The Hereditary Hemolytic Anemia Cascade is designed to evaluate individuals with hereditary hemolytic anemia or unexplained long-standing hemolytic anemia. Directed by a faculty hematopathologist, the testing stages are personally interpreted to completion, providing a comprehensive report. This test should not be used for follow-up of an individual with a known diagnosis.
Special Instructions
Submit patient history form with Order: Including information from a recent CBC, required for interpretation. Refrigerated specimens remain stable for up to 1 week; frozen or ambient conditions are unacceptable.
Limitations
Initial tests may include electrophoresis, solubility testing, mutational analysis, and/or sequencing. Abnormal hemoglobin variants may require additional testing, which may extend the turnaround time up to 21 days. The assay detects only certain hemolytic anemia causes and might not identify all variants, particularly those that are not large deletions or duplications.
