Human Epididymis Protein 4 (HE4)
Also known as: HE4
Use
The HE4 test is used as an aid in monitoring recurrence or progressive disease in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer. It is typically used alongside CA 125 to monitor ovarian cancer post-therapy if pretreatment levels were elevated. It is not recommended for monitoring known mucinous or germ cell ovarian cancer and is not a standalone test for ovarian cancer screening or diagnosis. Serial testing for patient HE4 assay values should be used in conjunction with other clinical findings for monitoring ovarian cancer.
Special Instructions
Use HE4 in conjunction with CA 125 for monitoring ovarian cancer. Not recommended for mucinous or germ cell types. Not for standalone screening or diagnosis.
Limitations
Results obtained with different test methods or kits cannot be used interchangeably. This test should not be used as a stand-alone tool for ovarian cancer diagnosis or screening. It should not be used for monitoring known mucinous or germ cell ovarian cancer.
