Leucine-Rich, Glioma-Inactivated Protein 1 (LGI1) Antibody, IgG by CBA-IFA With Reflex to Titer, CSF
Also known as: LGI1IGGCSF
Use
This test aids in the diagnosis of leucine-rich glioma inactivated 1 protein (LGI1) antibody disorders that are associated with limbic encephalitis, hyponatremia, and myoclonic movements. These disorders are rarely tied to tumors. The presence of LGI1 IgG antibody is mainly linked to limbic encephalitis and other disorders, such as Morvan syndrome, neuromyotonia, and idiopathic epilepsy. The test can help manage antibody-positive (LGI1) individuals following immunotherapy and/or plasmapheresis by utilizing specific semi-quantitative cell-based indirect fluorescent antibody methodologies to detect LGI1 transfected cell lines.
Special Instructions
If LGI1 antibody IgG is positive, then LGI1 antibody IgG titer will be added. Additional charges apply. The full spectrum of clinical disorders associated with the LGI1 IgG antibody is still being defined. Results should align with the patient's clinical history and other laboratory findings.
Limitations
The test may not detect all antibodies related to LGI1 protein disorders as the full spectrum is not fully defined. It is important to correlate results with clinical history and other laboratory findings as positive results only indicate an association and not a definitive diagnosis of a specific disorder. The test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, although it is developed and performed in a CLIA certified lab.
