Lipase, Fluid
Also known as: LIP FL
Use
The Lipase, Fluid test is used to measure the enzyme lipase in different types of body fluids such as biliary/hepatic, drain, pancreatic, pericardial, peritoneal/ascites, pleural, or synovial fluid. Elevated lipase levels in these fluids can indicate pancreatic damage or other conditions affecting fluid composition. This test is part of the differential diagnosis of conditions related to pancreatic function and is used in clinical settings to support diagnoses involving the pancreas or related organs.
Special Instructions
Specimen source must be provided upon collection. Ensure that the specimen is centrifuged to remove cellular material before transferring to an ARUP standard transport tube.
Limitations
This test is a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT) and has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. The performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories. Lipase levels can be affected by improper handling and storage; specimens should be collected and processed following standard protocols to ensure accuracy. Specimen types other than those listed and specimens too viscous to be aspirated by the instrument are not acceptable.
