Use
The Metoprolol Quantitative test is used to measure the concentration of metoprolol in serum or plasma. It is primarily used for therapeutic drug monitoring to ensure appropriate dosing and effectiveness of metoprolol therapy, and to avoid potential adverse effects. Metoprolol is a beta-blocker used for treating hypertension, angina, and other heart-related conditions. Monitoring serum or plasma levels helps in assessing patient compliance and adjusting dosages.
Special Instructions
The test requires collection of serum or plasma samples in plain red, lavender (K2EDTA), or pink (K2EDTA) tubes. It is important to separate the sample from cells as soon as possible, or within 2 hours of collection, and to transfer it into an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. The minimum volume required is 0.4 mL. This test is performed by a non-ARUP laboratory, and additional samples need to be submitted if multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
The performance of the test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. It is developed by NMS Labs with performance characteristics determined by them. Thus, it is important to corroborate results from this test with clinical findings and other relevant tests to ensure accurate patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
