p63 by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: P63 IHC
Use
The p63 by Immunohistochemistry test is used as part of diagnostic procedures in pathology to identify and study specific cellular proteins within tissues or cells. p63, a member of the p53 family, is pivotal in identifying certain types of epithelial cells, thereby aiding in the differentiation of tumors, assessing the origin of malignant cells, and supporting histopathological evaluations. It often plays a significant role in the diagnosis of cancers and helps differentiate squamous cell carcinoma from other neoplasms.
Special Instructions
Submit electronic request for ordering. If electronic ordering is unavailable, use the ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number. Ensure proper submission procedures to avoid delays: tissue block or slides must be transported with adequate protection against heat. Coordination with ARUP Client Services may be necessary for clarified submission processes.
Limitations
This test is provided solely as a technical service. Interpretive services are not included, and the test results should be correlated with clinical and other diagnostic findings for comprehensive diagnosis. It may not detect small focal areas or all protein expressions, depending on the tissue or cellular context, fixation quality, and other pre-analytical variables. Limitations inherent in immunohistochemistry, such as cross-reactivity, false positives, and variations in staining intensity, may occur.
