Pancreastatin, Serum
Also known as: PANCREA
Use
This test measures the level of Pancreastatin in serum, which is a bioactive peptide derived from Chromogranin A. It serves as a useful biomarker for neuroendocrine tumors, including gastrinomas, carcinoids, pheochromocytomas, and other neuroendocrine tumors. Pancreastatin measurement is particularly valuable in the evaluation and clinical management of such conditions, aiding in diagnosis and monitoring of treatment efficacy.
Special Instructions
Patient must be fasting for 10-12 hours prior to collection. Medications that may affect insulin levels should ideally be withheld for at least 48 hours before the test, if possible. The specimen should be collected in a Serum Separator Tube (SST) and processed properly before freezing.
Limitations
The Pancreastatin, Serum test is not performed at ARUP Laboratories; hence, if other tests are being ordered simultaneously, separate specimens must be submitted for each test. The test does not provide universal diagnostic capability across all tumor types and should be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical findings and diagnostic procedures.
