Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1, PAI-1 (SERPINE1) Genotyping
Also known as: PAI-1 GENO
Use
This test screens for genetic susceptibility to venous thromboembolism (VTE) or myocardial infarction (MI) in individuals with a personal or family history of thrombotic events. It assists in the risk/benefit assessment for preventive or therapeutic interventions targeting VTE or MI.
Special Instructions
Informed consent for genetic testing is required, particularly for New York clients. Counseling and informed consent are recommended, and forms are available online.
Limitations
The test evaluates only the PAI-1 promoter 4G/5G polymorphism and does not assess other variants within the PAI-1 (SERPINE1) gene. Diagnostic errors can occur due to rare sequence variations, and the test's clinical sensitivity is unknown.
